"A different world cannot be built by indifferent people."
Peace Corps to Company
After 35 years in business, Bob and Midge Leventry joined the Peace Corps, volunteering in Ecuador from 1993 to 1996. When they left hometown Chicago they didn’t know that 3 years later they would form a company and create a lasting relationship with the Ecuadorian people they had yet to meet.
While in Ecuador, Bob and Midge were introduced to a seed grain called quinoa. Midge, a nutritionist, recognized that this grain, basically unknown to the rest of the world, was a superior source of nutrition that needed to be made available to everyone. Bob, with a background in business, saw an opportunity to enable the indigenous farmers to increase the quality and volume of their quinoa harvests, receive fair pay and bring themselves out of poverty.
Inca Organics was formed in 1998 as the food division of Andean Partners, Inc. The Leventry's company mission was - and still is - to bring the finest quality organic quinoa from Ecuador to the marketplace and to ensure that the small farmers prosper.
Heirloom Quinoa Project
In 1998, joining with three other organizations, Inca Organics helped create the Heirloom Quinoa Project, which grew to be one of the most successful development projects in South America. Small farming families were contacted and encouraged to grow quinoa for export according to strict organic certification requirements. Using a teaching farm for the essentials of organic farming and processing provided the education and know-how to produce the level of product required for export. The Heirloom Project won the prestigious Slow Food International Award for the defense of biodiversity in 2002.
Inca Organics Today
Today, what started with a handful of farming families is now over 4,200 strong. Child malnutrition among the farming families has been reduced by over 50% and farmers' incomes have doubled. Early in 2016, after two years of qualifying additional organic quinoa growers and processors in Ecuador, Inca Organics doubled the amount of organic quinoa they can bring to the marketplace. Now four large farming cooperatives supply enough quinoa that Inca Organics can reliably fill an order of any size.
Inca Organics is dedicated to bringing premium 100% whole grain organic quinoa to the marketplace. Our clients are leading domestic food manufacturers, co-operatives and distributors. Join the community of clients who agree that Inca Organics quinoa meets the standards of quality that they want to deliver to their customers.
Fair Trade & Sustainability
Inca Organics is a social company committed to fair trade and ensuring that the indigenous farmers and artisans they work with receive fair compensation. This commitment to fair trade principles is a core value of the company - supporting the long term vision of sustainability.
